Jakarta—A member of the House of Representatives Commission I, TB Hasanuddin, has stated that Israel’s military attack on Iran could produce serious consequences as it risks undermining efforts to ease tensions in Gaza through the Board of Peace (BoP).

In an official press statement received in Jakarta, Hasanuddin said the Israeli and United States attack also raises major questions about broader geopolitical direction and interests.

“The open Israeli attack, followed by President Donald Trump’s statement that the US has joined recent military operations, suggests a strong interest in the de facto control of Iran by Israel and its ally the United States,” he said.

He also emphasised that from this Israeli attack on Iran, the international community will struggle to believe in genuine American intent to make peace with Palestine.

“From this event, we must conclude that it is impossible for Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu to have genuine intentions of bringing peace to Palestine. The facts on the ground instead show increasingly widespread conflict escalation,” he asserted.

As a result, Hasanuddin continued, this situation leaves the public increasingly doubtful about the peace mission claimed through the BoP.

“We become increasingly disbelieving that the BoP truly has sincere intentions for peace, if what is actually happening is conflict expansion and military attacks on other countries,” he added.

Beyond geopolitical impacts, he believes the attack will affect global economic stability, particularly in the energy sector.

Two weeks ago, he noted, Iran threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which approximately 20 per cent of global oil trade passes, though this only lasted several hours.

“It is possible that Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz again or that region could become an armed conflict zone,” he said.

Should this occur, Hasanuddin believes global oil prices could surge sharply and would have serious consequences for Indonesia, which still imports oil.

Observing this situation, Hasanuddin has called on the Indonesian Government to swiftly determine a clear position regarding the Israeli invasion alongside the United States against Iran, in accordance with the constitutional mandate rejecting all forms of colonialism and supporting world peace.

“It is time our active diplomatic efforts over recent months demonstrate whether we are truly seen as having a strategic global position, or whether we remain far from achieving our objectives,” he said.
