Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XI Said Abdullah has proposed extending the annual individual income tax return (SPT PPh) filing period following IT system disruptions.

As of Thursday (30/6), the final day for individual SPT filings, he noted that 3.3 million taxpayers had yet to submit, despite a one-month extension from the original deadline of 31 March 2026.

“If corporate taxpayers’ SPT can be filed until 31 May 2026, I see no issue with extending it by a day or even a week for individuals,” Said stated in a comment received in Jakarta on Friday.

If the system is problematic, he said, individual taxpayers would naturally face obstacles in filing their SPT. Failure to file incurs penalties, but if the system is at fault, it is not entirely the taxpayers’ responsibility.

To maximise strategic policies and meet tax revenue targets, Said explained that the Coretax system has been technically provided.

However, when Coretax encounters issues, he continued, it should not hinder strategic policy targets, making it better to postpone the SPT filing deadline.

“The Directorate General of Taxes should just set the technical timing so that the number of taxpayers filing SPT can exceed 15 million and support state revenue,” he said.

He did not deny that the Coretax system has shown significant progress in the country’s taxation since its implementation.

Nevertheless, since its initial rollout, he noted, there have been several IT system issues with Coretax, and they have recurred now.

The Chairman of the DPR Budget Agency opined that before implementing the technology system, there should have been security tests, traffic tests, and various other technical tests to ensure the system is reliable for public release and use.

“If there are repeated usage obstacles, I worry that taxpayer compliance in filing taxes will decline due to the prepared system’s issues,” said the DPR commission member handling the financial sector.

In fact, he continued, tax revenue is currently a crucial backbone, supporting the financing of various government programmes and development.

If taxpayer compliance decreases due to system issues, he warned that tax revenue will also plummet amid challenges in meeting this year’s tax revenue targets due to geopolitical factors impacting the domestic economy.

Therefore, Said hopes the Minister of Finance can involve relevant agencies or professionals to audit the system, detect weaknesses, and fix them, so such incidents do not recur.

Previously, the Director General of Taxes at the Ministry of Finance, Bimo Wijayanto, stated that the number of annual individual income tax return (SPT PPh) filings for the 2025 tax year had reached 12.7 million as of 30 April 2026.

Bimo said the figure represents reports received up to 12:00 WIB on the final day for corporate SPT PPh submissions across Indonesia.

“Here, we are reviewing the final day submissions for the 2025 corporate SPT PPh, tax year 2025. We can report that 12.7 million SPT have been received as of 12 o’clock,” Bimo said during a press conference while visiting the Jakarta Madya Tax Office on Thursday (30/4).

He explained that this achievement indicates fairly good taxpayer participation in fulfilling their annual tax reporting obligations to the government nationwide.
