Legislator Confident 2026 Hajj Will Proceed: No Indication of Mecca Disruption
Jakarta – Abidin Fikri, Deputy Chair of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, stated that Saudi Arabia has not yet provided official clarification regarding postponement of the 2026 hajj pilgrimage.
He noted that the geopolitical situation in the Middle East continues to be closely monitored following the outbreak of conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Abidin expressed that Commission VIII of the House of Representatives remains optimistic that 2026 hajj preparations will proceed smoothly as planned. He emphasised that there has been no formal prohibition notice from Saudi Arabian authorities, as occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We in Commission VIII continue to oversee 2026 hajj preparations comprehensively, including regulatory, technical, and financial aspects, as well as planned readiness carried out by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah,” Abidin stated in his remarks on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
“The public is asked to remain calm because there are no indications that conflict will disrupt the holy areas of Mecca and Madinah,” he added.
He claimed that Commission VIII of the House of Representatives is committed to conducting strict oversight to ensure that the 2026 hajj pilgrimage services are enhanced and conducted safely and comfortably for all prospective Indonesian pilgrims.
