Legislator Applauds Environmental Mission in Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026
Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the NasDem Party faction, Cindy Monica, has expressed appreciation for the environmental awareness and forest and land fire (karhutla) prevention movement integrated into the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026. She hopes the activity will have a positive impact on increasing public concern for the environment.
Cindy Monica attended the Road to Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 event in Pekanbaru on Sunday, 21 June 2026. She assessed that this sporting event is not merely an ordinary running competition, but a positive social movement that brings great benefit to the people of Bumi Lancang Kuning.
On the sidelines of the activity, Cindy Monica revealed that she consistently monitors strategic work programmes initiated by the Riau Police Chief and his main leadership ranks. According to her, the Riau Regional Police under the leadership of Inspector General Herry Heryawan and Deputy Chief Brigadier General Hengky Haryadi have demonstrated extraordinary commitment. The police institution in Riau has proven to not only focus on law enforcement and public order functions, but also pays great attention to ecological issues, particularly the handling of forest and land fires.
“The highest appreciation goes to the Riau Regional Police, especially to the Police Chief and Deputy Chief and all ranks. The movement initiated through the Bhayangkara Run is a very positive step and deserves full support from all elements of society,” said Cindy Monica on Tuesday (22/6/2026).
Cindy Monica’s full support was not without reason. She shared her emotional experience from the past when her family became direct victims of the thick haze caused by forest fires in Riau. “Personally, I have experienced the direct impact of these forest and land fires. At that time, my family, including my younger sibling, had to stay indoors for more than a month due to the unhealthy air conditions. Teaching and learning activities were also disrupted because of the haze,” she explained.
The impact of the haze crippled the education sector, where school teaching and learning activities were disrupted and forced to temporarily stop for safety reasons. Therefore, she believes that this activity organised by the Riau Regional Police serves as a positive educational tool. “That is why I truly understand the importance of collaborative efforts to prevent and handle forest and land fires. Activities like the Road to Bhayangkara Run serve as an excellent educational tool to build collective public awareness,” she added.
The Riau Regional Police will hold the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026 on 19 July 2026. This event, which marks the 80th National Police Day (Hari Bhayangkara), will be attended directly by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who will flag off the race. The event, the largest of its kind in Sumatra, will be participated in by 15,000 runners, including international participants. The Riau Regional Police has also demonstrated inclusivity by providing opportunities for disabled individuals to participate in the Riau Bhayangkara Run 2026.
