Lecturer Becomes Victim in Obscene Student Chat Group Case at UI Law Faculty
The University of Indonesia’s Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Violence (Satgas PPK), along with the Expert Team, is still conducting in-depth fact-finding and evidence verification to investigate the case involving 16 students from the Faculty of Law (FH) suspected of being involved in a sexual harassment incident in a chat group.
In the latest development, Satgas PPK has also stated that it has examined a lecturer who became a victim in the obscene chat case.
Satgas has conducted examinations of seven victims from the student group, eight victims from the lecturer group, and one witness. In addition, examinations have been carried out on the 16 reported parties.
The team is also reviewing textual evidence in the form of conversation documents (chat exports) spanning from 2024 to 2026 as part of the process to strengthen the proof.
“The examination process continues with principles of prudence, objectivity, and based on valid evidence. In-depth exploration of statements from victims, witnesses, and the reported parties is conducted comprehensively to ensure justice for all parties,” said UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, in his statement on Tuesday (5/5).
Next, the handling agenda will focus on additional examinations of victims from the student group and other witnesses who have not yet been questioned.
In addition, the team will enter the stage of compiling conclusions and sanction recommendations based on all examination results and analyses conducted.
Erwin conveyed that the entire KSBE handling process is proceeding in accordance with applicable provisions, namely referring to Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Regulation Number 55 of 2024 and UI Rector Regulation Number 37 of 2025 on Prevention and Handling of Violence in the University of Indonesia Environment.
Furthermore, UI has again urged the public not to disseminate unverified information and to avoid speculation that could disrupt the examination process. The university assures that principles of confidentiality, objectivity, and accountability remain the main foundation in every stage of case handling.
Previously, the alleged harassment case originated from the circulation of a screenshot of a chat group containing obscene conversations allegedly by FH UI students. In the group, they referenced other female students.
From the Instagram account of the Faculty of Law UI (@fakultashukumui), it is stated that the faculty has received reports regarding the chat group. The faculty strongly condemns the actions.
