Lebaran Transport Traffic at Kualanamu Airport Shows Positive Growth
PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi recorded positive operational performance during the Lebaran transport period at Kualanamu International Airport. Based on traffic data up to 24 March 2026, the number of passenger movements reached 28,103, representing a 29.4 per cent growth compared to the same period in 2025. Meanwhile, aircraft movements were recorded at 176 flights, an annual increase of 26.6 per cent.
This achievement also indicates a high flight utilisation rate of 93.1 per cent from the total daily schedule. The seat load factor stood at 90.2 per cent, reflecting strong public demand for air transport services during Lebaran.
Kualanamu Airport also noted strengthened connectivity with a total of 17 airlines operating and 39 flight routes, an increase from the previous year. It serves wide-body aircraft operations of the Airbus A330 type for several strategic routes. Domestic routes include flights to and from Jakarta and Batam, while for international routes, the Jeddah route has resumed operations after a temporary suspension due to airspace closure.
“The resumption of this route serves as an indicator of increasingly strong international connectivity recovery. This achievement results from comprehensive operational readiness and improvements in service quality,” said Acting Director of Operation and Services of PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi, Dedy Sri Cahyono, in a written statement on Thursday, 26 March 2026.
Entering the post-Lebaran period, Kualanamu Airport’s operations are now in the return flow phase, projected to last until H+8 Lebaran. Passenger movement trends show significant increases, particularly on major routes to big cities, as people return to their hometowns.
“The significant traffic increase during the Lebaran transport period demonstrates the growing public confidence in Kualanamu Airport’s services. We ensure all operational aspects run optimally, including infrastructure readiness, personnel, and coordination with all stakeholders,” said Dedy.
Furthermore, Dedy explained that Angkasa Pura has implemented various service innovations to enhance passenger comfort, particularly in reducing potential congestion at check-in areas.
“The implementation of a serpentine line queuing system at several check-in counter lanes is more effective in breaking up congestion, speeding up service flow, making it more orderly and comfortable for prospective passengers,” he added.
Service optimisation is also supported by strengthened operational oversight, improved on-time performance (OTP), and adequate provision of supporting facilities during the peak mudik and return flow periods.
“With performance that continues to show positive trends, PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi is committed to maintaining the highest service standards and ensuring smooth airport operations as one of Indonesia’s main air transport gateways,” he concluded.
The Lebaran transport post was opened from 13-30 March 2026. During that period, the number of arriving and departing passengers is estimated at 443,036 people with a total of 3,009 aircraft movements. To anticipate increased traffic, there are 151 additional flights from several airlines, dominated by routes to and from Jakarta and Palembang.
On the cargo side, the 2026 realisation was recorded at 1,295 tonnes. Overall, cargo performance remains on a good recovery path with a recovery rate of 139.5 per cent against the 2019 achievement, indicating that logistics activity remains stable during the Lebaran period.
