PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has sold 3,799,365 train tickets for Lebaran transportation. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that this figure reaches 84.5 percent of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for the period from 11 March to 1 April 2026.

“The trend of mudik travel by train continues to increase since mid-March,” she said in a written statement on Saturday, 21 March 2026.

The latest number of tickets sold was recorded at 10:00 WIB today. The sold tickets are for long-distance train travel and local train services.

Long-distance train ticket sales reached 3,292,121 or 92.2 percent of the total 3,571,760 seats provided. There are still 279,639 tickets available that can be booked by the public for the return flow.

Meanwhile, for local train services, ticket sales recorded 438,203 or 47.3 percent of the total 926,936 seats available. There are still 488,733 seats remaining. Local train ticket sales will increase closer to the departure date as they can only be booked a minimum of H-7 before departure.

Anne said that during the mudik flow period from 11 to 20 March 2026, KAI has served 1,695,218 long-distance train passengers and 302,561 local train passengers on Java and Sumatra. “Overall, this totals 1,997,779 passengers,” she added.

Several trains with high booking rates during the 2026 Lebaran transportation period include KA Airlangga, KA Joglosemarkerto, KA Sri Tanjung, KA Bengawan, KA Kahuripan, KA Rajabasa, and KA Jayakarta. Anne explained that occupancy rates above 100 percent are possible in long-distance train operations due to dynamic travel patterns within a single trainset.

In a single long-distance train journey, one seat can be used by more than one passenger on different routes. “This scheme allows the number of passengers served to be greater than the number of seats available in one travel line,” said Anne Purba.
