Lebaran Return Flow Not Yet Visible, Tanjung Priok Terminal Still Busy with Departures
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Lebaran return flow has not yet appeared at Tanjung Priok Terminal, North Jakarta, on Monday (23/3/2026). Kompas.com observations at the site revealed that the terminal is still dominated by buses preparing to depart for out-of-town locations. Several passengers were seen sitting and waiting for their bus departures. Not only backpacks and handbags, but the majority of passengers also carried provisions in cardboard boxes. Some residents were observed transferring their luggage to the bus compartments. Several bus company (PO) staff were actively approaching and inquiring about the destinations of newly arrived prospective passengers. “Where to? Cirebon? Serang? Or Tasik?” said one of the PO staff. Based on data from the Tanjung Priok Terminal Information Centre, the latest arrival figures on Sunday (22/3/2026) were still lower than the departure numbers. A total of 412 passengers arrived at Tanjung Priok Terminal during that period, while the number of departing passengers reached 543 people. “Indeed, the return flow isn’t visible here yet. The holiday leave extends until Thursday, so it might get busy just before that,” said Fajri (30), one of the terminal staff, on Monday. Aziz (35), one of the passengers at Tanjung Priok Terminal, was just about to head home to Cirebon after celebrating Lebaran in Jakarta. Aziz is accustomed to heading home later to avoid traffic jams. “Yes, usually I choose to return after celebrating Lebaran here first, so it’s not too crowded there either,” he said when met by Kompas.com on Monday.
