Lebak Police to Prosecute Perpetrators of Sarong Fights During Ramadan
Lebak District Police (Polres Lebak) are taking firm action against perpetrators of sarong fights during the month of Ramadan. Police have stated that offenders will be prosecuted in accordance with prevailing regulations.
Lebak Police Chief Senior Commissioner Herlio Zaki said that during Ramadan, the phenomenon of sarong fights has the potential to occur within the Lebak jurisdiction. He affirmed that those involved in disturbing public security and order could face criminal charges, even if the perpetrators are minors.
“Even if they are still underage, if the elements of a criminal offence are met, they can still be prosecuted,” he said on Wednesday (18/2/2026).
Zaki noted that in maintaining a conducive atmosphere during Ramadan, police have mapped out vulnerable spots prone to deviant behaviour. In these areas, differentiated security measures have been deployed as part of anticipatory efforts to prevent undesirable incidents.
“We have already marked several vulnerable locations, whether for illegal street racing, brawls, or what is commonly known as sarong wars among youths. We have anticipated all of these,” he said.
Zaki urged all members of the community and parents to play an active role in mitigation efforts. He called on all parties to monitor children’s activities.
“The role of parents is extremely important; supervision must be heightened, particularly during the night through to the pre-dawn meal. If a child has not returned home or their whereabouts are unknown, they should be sought out immediately and their safety ensured,” he said.
