LBH protest at attack on Bintang

BANDUNG: The local office of the Legal Aid Institute has
written to the National Police Chief and the West Java Police
Chief demanding a prompt investigation of an attempted attack
against politician Sri Bintang Pamungkas in nearby Cianjur last
Saturday.

Gatot Rianto of the institute said Bintang was attacked in the
presence of police officers, by a group of youths as he arrived
in Cianjur to address a meeting organized by the Forum for Human
Rights Study and Advocacy, Antara reported.

Bintang was eventually saved from the attack, but his car was
vandalized, Gatot said, adding that the police officers' inaction
was deplorable.

Saef al Halaz, the chairman of the forum, was also physically
attacked, he said. (emb)
