Semarang (ANTARA) - The National Zakat Amil Institution (Laznas) Baitul Maal Hidayatullah (BMH) has distributed zakat, infak, and sedekah amounting to Rp314 billion to 1,516,936 beneficiaries through various programmes throughout 2025. This distribution reflects the strengthening of zakat’s role not only as social assistance but also as an instrument for sustainable development. BMH’s Chief Executive, Supendi, stated this in Semarang on Wednesday during the BMH Public Talkshow Expo titled “Happiness through Collaborative Zakat Goodness”. The programmes implemented cover dakwah, education, social and humanitarian efforts, economy, health, and the environment. According to Supendi, the largest allocation was for social and humanitarian programmes at Rp119 billion, followed by dakwah programmes at Rp110 billion, and education at Rp9 billion. He emphasised that zakat management focuses not only on distribution but also on creating sustainable impacts through collaboration with various stakeholders. “Zakat is a trust that must be managed professionally and transparently to bring about real change for the beneficiaries, and this is all achieved through collaboration,” he said. He added that in the recent period, Laznas BMH has recorded positive growth in collections alongside increasing public trust. The event also serves as a strategic moment to convey performance achievements, benefit distribution, and the impact of zakat programmes to the public in an open and accountable manner. Hidayatullah’s General Chairman, KH Nasfi Arsyad Lc, affirmed that zakat plays a strategic role in building community self-reliance. “Zakat is not just an act of worship but also an important instrument in creating social justice and societal welfare,” he said. Meanwhile, Central Java Baznas Chairman KH Ahmad Darodji highlighted the importance of good zakat governance to maintain public trust. He stressed that transparency and accountability are key to strengthening the national zakat ecosystem. The event also featured perspectives from muzakki representatives who stated that trust in zakat institutions grows with clear reporting and the direct impact of programmes felt by the community. On the other hand, BMH scholarship education programme beneficiaries, such as Nasya Rizky, a student at Diponegoro University, and Zain Abdullah, a student at Al Burhan pesantren who won a gold medal in the 2025 student olympiad festival, expressed gratitude for the assistance received. They stated that full scholarships from Laznas BMH have opened opportunities to continue education while achieving accomplishments to realise their aspirations. On the same occasion, Laznas BMH also signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Nusacita to facilitate public access in fulfilling zakat, infak, sedekah, and wakaf through more than 2,600 ATM Bersama networks.
