Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Jakarta DPRD, Hardiyanto Kenneth, stated that the Transjakarta bus accident on Corridor 13 serves as a serious warning for all public transportation stakeholders and should be a moment for comprehensive evaluation.

“This incident must be a moment for comprehensive evaluation. Public transportation is the backbone of Jakarta’s mobility, so the aspect of safety cannot be compromised,” said Kenneth in Jakarta, Thursday.

According to Bang Kent, as Hardiyanto Kenneth is affectionately known, public trust in mass transportation services depends on the consistency of management in maintaining safety standards and the professionalism of drivers.

Therefore, he encourages Transjakarta management to carry out a comprehensive overhaul, especially in the driver recruitment system.

The member of Commission C of the Jakarta DPRD highlighted that the recruitment process has involved third parties or private companies. This scheme is considered managerially sound, but supervision of the quality of selection and standardization of competence must be tightened.

Bang Kent proposed a comprehensive refresher of the training system through more intensive coordination between Transjakarta and third-party labor providers.

He believes that the existing training needs to be maximized, not just as an administrative formality. Moreover, Transjakarta has a Training Academy, so its role and function should be maximized.

“My suggestion is that Transjakarta should be able to be the leading sector in holding special mandatory training for all drivers, both newly recruited and those who have been working for a long time. I leave the details of the training scheme to the management of PT Transjakarta,” he said.

He hopes that this program is important as a form of refresher training to update safety standards in accordance with the dynamics on the ground.

In addition, the Indonesian National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) is also considered to need to be present to provide material on traffic discipline and emphasize the prohibition of driving while tired or not in good condition.

Not only that, he also emphasized the importance of involving medical personnel and psychologists as well as religious figures in the training. According to him, fatigue, work pressure, physical health conditions, and emotional stability greatly affect the quality of decision-making while driving.

“In many cases, human error is the main cause of accidents. Therefore, the physical, mental and psychological health of drivers must be an integral part of the training system,” he added.

Bang Kent emphasized that passenger safety is a shared responsibility, but as the operator, Transjakarta has a central role in ensuring that every driver is truly ready in terms of competence, physically and mentally before driving a fleet that carries hundreds or even thousands of passengers every day.

“A comprehensive evaluation and concrete breakthroughs are no longer a choice, but an urgent need to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future,” he said.
