Law Minister Emphasises Transparency in Legal Process for Videographer Amsal's Case
Padang (ANTARA) - Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas has emphasised and reminded that the enforcement of the law in the case involving Amsal Christy Sitepu, a videographer in North Sumatra, must be transparent.
“What is certain is that the legal process must be transparent,” said Indonesian Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas in Padang on Monday.
This was conveyed by Indonesian Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Legal Aid Post (Posbakum) in West Sumatra Province.
In detail, Law Minister Supratman admitted that he does not yet know the exact details of the case being handled by Amsal Christy Sitepu. The videographer is charged in a corruption case involving the inflation of the budget for a village project in Karo Regency, North Sumatra.
Supratman respects and states that the case has entered the legal realm and is not under the Ministry of Law. Nevertheless, his side claims it will monitor the progress of the case.
“We will monitor this case. But what is certain is that it must be transparent,” he said, reminding.
Separately, Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives has called on the panel of judges to consider imposing an acquittal or a light sentence on videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu, who is a defendant in a village project in Karo Regency.
Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, said that the panel of judges needs to consider the facts of the trial and follow the values of law and the sense of justice that lives in society. For now, Commission III of the House of Representatives has also agreed to act as guarantors for Amsal in applying for detention suspension.
According to him, the legal process needs to prioritise Article 53 paragraph 2 of the new Criminal Code (KUHP), where law enforcement must prioritise justice if there is a conflict in legal certainty.
