JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas confirmed that the revision of the Undang-Undang Kepolisian Negara Republik Indonesia (Polri Bill) will accommodate recommendations from the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform (KPRP) that have been delivered to President Prabowo Subianto. Supratman said the government could not ignore the Polri reform team’s recommendations as the team’s work had been directly received by the head of state. ‘Yes, certainly. It is impossible not to. After all, the President has received the recommendations of the Polri reform team,’ he said at the DPR building, on Wednesday (20 May 2026). And now, in fact this has always been a DPR-proposed idea. Since I was head of Baleg, the revision of the Polri Law had already been envisaged, he said. Therefore, he added, the government will communicate with the National Police Chief (Kapolri) and DPR’s Commission III to incorporate the Polri reform recommendations into the discussion of the bill’s revision. ‘And after the Polri Reform Acceleration Commission’s report is completed, the communications among the government, the Law Minister, the Kapolri, and Commission III — which initiated the revision of the Polri Law — will surely include all the reform commission’s recommendations,’ he said. Among other aspects is also the placement of Polri personnel in ministerial bodies. So it will surely be regulated, he said. When asked about the possibility of provisions placing Polri personnel in particular institutions, Supratman emphasised that the arrangements would be studied further during DPR deliberations. At least in Perpol there is already a framework, and the second is that it will be studied. We are awaiting the results of the discussions to be conducted by the DPR, he added. Yes, in essence, all of this is about improving the institucionality of all state institutions. That is the President’s commitment and what his aides, including those at the Ministry of Law, must carry out, he concluded. The DPR’s Plenary Session approved the revision of Law No. 2 of 2002 on the Indonesian National Police to become a DPR-initiated proposal, on Wednesday (20 May 2026). The approval came after all factions submitted written views on the Polri law revision proposed by DPR’s Commission III.
