Law Minister Assures Government Will Block Non-Compliant Social Media Platforms Under PP Tunas
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG - The Minister of Law and Human Rights (Menkum) Supratman Andi Agtas stated that the government will firmly enforce the law against social media platforms proven to violate Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on the Protection of Electronic Systems Governance in Child Protection (PP Tunas). PP Tunas is an effort to protect children under the age of 16 in the digital space.
“The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs will carry out law enforcement, including blocking all platforms that do not comply with PP Tunas,” said Indonesian Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas in Padang on Monday (30/3/2026). This was conveyed by the Indonesian Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas on the sidelines of the inauguration of Legal Aid Posts (Posbakum) for several districts and cities in West Sumatra Province (Sumbar).
Minister Supratman emphasised that after PP Tunas has been harmonised by relevant stakeholders, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs now has strong legal basis to enforce its legal provisions.
Therefore, he said, digital social media platforms that have not met the requirements of the Protection of Electronic Systems Governance in Child Protection must be dealt with firmly to protect the future of children. According to him, PP Tunas serves as a clear framework or protection for the public to safeguard children under 16, especially in the digital space.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Dharmasraya in West Sumatra Province, Annisa Suci Ramadhani, welcomed the birth of PP Tunas, which she views as one of the government’s progressive steps in protecting children in the digital space. “This is certainly a good policy, and I fully agree that social media platforms are high-risk,” said the Regent of Dharmasraya.
According to her, there are many ways to teach children about technology without fully relying on social media. She stated that the local government will follow up on PP Tunas to ensure its implementation runs optimally.
Although this policy has received positive responses from the public and stakeholders, she emphasised that the implementation of PP Tunas must be closely monitored to ensure it truly has a positive impact, especially in protecting children under 16 years old.
