Law enforcement and political will
Law enforcement and political will
From Koran Tempo
The initial drive launched by President Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono to eliminate corruption, collusion and nepotism through
the government's 100-day program has apparently received a
serious response from all ministers and law enforcers.
What is now obvious is that the entire state apparatus is
capable of more arduous work as long as the chief executive shows
strong political will.
The government is now aware of the need to speedily restore
public confidence as public pessimism about antigraft action
gradually turns into optimism.
This optimism will further increase when several corruptors --
already found guilty and yet still at large -- are immediately
sent to prison on Nusakambangan Island.
If the government's antigraft operation is carried out on a
routine basis and without discrimination, it will earn not only
public support but also international backing.
The President with the majority of the population behind him
will hopefully have no more doubts about stamping out corruption
and corruptors, who are causing the nation to lose millions as
they plunder the public purse for private gain.
