The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia has ensured that the process of bringing umrah pilgrims home continues in stages amid escalating security concerns in the Middle East region following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran.

Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Spokesperson Ichsan Marsha stated that all handling processes are carried out in a measured, coordinated manner, and prioritise the safety of pilgrims.

“From 28 February to 1 March 2026, a total of 6,047 pilgrims have safely returned to Indonesia. The government continues to oversee this process to ensure all pilgrims return in a staged and orderly manner,” said Ichsan as reported by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah website on Tuesday (3 March 2026) in the early morning hours.

The prospective umrah pilgrims scheduled to depart until before the hajj season on 18 April 2026 total 43,363 people from 439 umrah travel operators (PPIU).

“We ensure that each PPIU fulfils its obligations in full, from the departure of pilgrims, services whilst in Saudi Arabia, to the return of pilgrims. This responsibility cannot be neglected,” Ichsan emphasised.

The government also requested that communication between PPIU operators and pilgrims continues to be maintained well.

“We urge pilgrims and PPIU operators to understand one another. The key priority is to ensure that all pilgrims remain safe, well-served, and have certainty,” he continued.

“Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we continue to coordinate with Indonesian representatives abroad to ensure every pilgrim matter is handled quickly and accurately. We ask all pilgrims to remain calm and follow official guidance,” Ichsan concluded.

In prioritising aspects of safety and protection of pilgrims, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has advised umrah pilgrims scheduled to depart in the near future to postpone their departures until conditions in the Middle East become conducive again.

Previously, Israel attacked Tehran, Iran, on Saturday (28 February 2026) in the morning. Following that attack, countries in the Middle East region closed their airspace for security purposes.

Meanwhile, news agency Agence France-Presse reported two explosions heard in Tehran.

The United States is reported to have also been involved in the attack. This information was conveyed by several US officials and other sources familiar with the operation.
