Access to the Bromo mountain tourist area, particularly the route to Penanjakan Peak via Pasuruan, was temporarily cut off due to a landslide disaster that occurred at several points on Wednesday (25 February 2026) in the early hours.

The landslide at Bukit Kedaluh was the most severely affected location, burying several vehicles, before the route was declared passable again on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tosari sub-district area of Pasuruan Regency experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds for more than 15 hours from Tuesday (24 February 2026) at 08:00 WIB. This extreme rainfall intensity triggered landslides at several points in Wonokitri Village.

Soil, rocks, and fallen trees temporarily buried seven motorcycles belonging to residents and visitors parked near the location. Fortunately, there were no fatalities in this incident.

As a result, the tourist route from Wonokitri to Penanjakan could not be traversed as the roadway was completely blocked.

In handling the disaster, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) found that the landslide did not occur at just two initial points, but a total of three landslide locations:

All three points were located on the main route for tourists heading to the Penanjakan sunrise area.

Evacuation of landslide material was carried out by a combined team from relevant agencies.

“Soil and vegetation have been cleared. Vehicle traffic has returned to normal and the route can be traversed,” said Sugeng Hariyadi, citing Kompas.com (25 February 2026).

Although the route has been reopened, the BPBD urged the public and tourists to remain cautious. Given that the potential for extreme weather could still trigger secondary landslides, monitoring continues at vulnerable points over the coming days.

“Tourists are requested to follow the guidance of field officers and remain vigilant,” said Sugeng.
