Landak (Suara Kalbar) — Landak District Police held a coordination meeting on the handling of illegal loud exhaust pipes (knalpot brong) within their jurisdiction, at the Landak Police BKPM office in West Kalimantan on Thursday (17/4/2025).

Landak Police Chief AKBP Siswo Dwi Nugroho emphasised the importance of all stakeholders' participation in maintaining order and security in Landak Regency. He highlighted the issues of juvenile delinquency and narcotics distribution that need to be prevented as early as possible.

"Problems such as juvenile delinquency and illicit narcotics trafficking should not wait until there are perpetrators or victims. Prevention is better than cure. We invite all parties to jointly maintain a conducive public order," said AKBP Siswo Dwi Nugroho.

The police chief added that handling the use of loud exhaust pipes is not solely the responsibility of the police but also requires active involvement from all elements of society. He therefore requested support from all parties, including community leaders, workshop owners, café operators, and parents, to help educate young people.

"We want to change the public mindset that using loud exhaust pipes is not a trend worth following, but rather a violation that can impact public comfort and order," he explained.

Landak Police will continue to take humane yet firm enforcement action against such violations, as part of their commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive security situation within their jurisdiction. The police chief also urged café operators and workshop owners to remind visitors and customers not to use vehicles fitted with loud exhaust pipes, as they severely disrupt public order.

A representative of the Landak Regency DAD (Customary Council) Chairman affirmed that the use of loud exhaust pipes cannot be tolerated. Besides potentially disrupting public order, offenders may also face criminal sanctions and customary penalties. The council also suggested that the Village Administration Agency be involved in conveying advisories to village heads to educate the public about the dangers and prohibition of loud exhaust pipes.

"If necessary, all vehicles using loud exhaust pipes should be destroyed," asserted one of the customary leaders present at the meeting.

Support was also expressed by the Head of the Landak Regency Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), who stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration. He also reminded café operators to comply with operational hour limits and urged boarding house owners to conduct strict registration of their tenants.
