Land reclamation causes floods
JAKARTA (JP): The City Council urged the governor yesterday to
put a halt to PT Cakra Bina Lestari's reclamation project in
Cengkareng Barat, West Jakarta, which is causing floods in a
nearby housing complex.
The City Council's Commission D, which is in charge of
development affairs, said PT Cakra Bina Lestari, a real estate
developer, has caused floods in the Rawa Bengkel, Pulo Bambu
Larangan and Bengkulak sub-districts.
Area residents told the commission that the developer
neglected to build water ducts which could have protected the
surrounding areas. The residents added that their areas had never
been inundated by water until the project, designed to reclaim 58
hectares of swampland for Palm View Garden real estate, was
initiated.
The commission stated that the governor should review the
appropriation permit issued for the developer. (yns)
