Bandarlampung (ANTARA) — Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Paul Ibnu Suhendra, has stated that Lampung Province's oil resource potential is estimated at 830 million barrels.

"Lampung Province possesses significant oil and gas resource potential. Based on geological assessments, the oil resource potential is estimated at approximately 830 million barrels, which requires maturation through further exploration," said Paul Ibnu Suhendra during a working visit by House of Representatives Commission XII to Bandarlampung on Friday.

He noted that 652 kilometres of 2D seismic data acquisition has already been carried out to improve the quality of subsurface mapping.

"This step is expected to unlock new potential whilst supporting the national oil production increase target," he said.

Meanwhile, Regional Director 1 for Sumatra at PT Pertamina EP, Muhammad Arifin, explained that the estimated oil in place potential in the South Sumatra (Sumbagsel) Area 1 working zone reaches approximately 1.4 billion barrels.

"The 2D seismic survey is planned to commence in June 2026, followed by studies and exploration drilling in 2028," said Muhammad Arifin.

According to him, should economically viable reserves be discovered, the subsequent stages would include delineation, preparation of a development plan (POD), through to an initial on-stream target in 2032.

"Without exploration today, there will be no production in the future," he said.

The Lampung Provincial Government has expressed its support for the acceleration of licensing processes, including the Forest Area Use Permit (PPKH) process and cross-agency coordination related to optimising oil resources in the region.

The regional government is also encouraging synergy between central and regional authorities to ensure the development of the energy and mineral resources sector proceeds in alignment with national targets, without neglecting social considerations and environmental sustainability.
