Lampung Provincial Government Responds Swiftly to Repair Street Lighting Along Trans-Sumatra Highway
The Lampung Provincial Government has moved swiftly to respond to public complaints regarding inadequate street lighting (PJU) on the Trans-Sumatra Highway (Jalinsum) in the Bakauheni area, which has drawn attention ahead of the Eid holiday exodus. Governor Lampung Rahmat Mirzani Djausal, through the Head of the Lampung Provincial Transportation Department, Bambang Sumbogo, immediately coordinated swift action with all district and city transportation department officials to give special attention to street lighting conditions along the main holiday migration route.
This step follows a meeting in Bakauheni involving the Forkopimda leadership, including the Regional Police Chief and Military Commander, which highlighted numerous complaints from holiday travellers and public attention on social media regarding the dark conditions on Jalinsum during night hours. In swift response, repairs were carried out directly in the field.
The Land Transport Management Centre (BPTD) Lampung, working with the South Lampung Transportation Department, has taken action at several priority locations. In the Kalianda area, BPTD Lampung has repaired four units of solar-powered street lights that are now functioning again.
Meanwhile, the South Lampung Transportation Department has installed and reorganised three street light points, including moving lights from other locations to high-risk areas. Repairs are focused on strategic routes with high accident risk, particularly the Bakauheni–Kalianda section, including the Bakauheni slope, which has long been known as a high-risk accident and security incident site.
Additionally, the BPTD team is scheduled to continue work on the Natar section, specifically from the Sawitan flyover to Hajimena Roundabout, with a target of repairing six street light units to ensure optimal functioning. The Head of the Lampung Provincial Transportation Department, Bambang Sumbogo, stressed that the street light repair process continues in stages and intensively at various priority locations.
He hopes that all these efforts can be completed promptly before the peak holiday exodus period. “We continue to undertake street light repairs. Hopefully they will soon be completed and holiday travellers will no longer face lighting problems on the roads,” said Bambang.
Governor Rahmat Mirzani emphasised the importance of accelerating this action as part of a humanitarian operation, to ensure the safety and comfort of holiday travellers passing through Lampung as the main gateway to Sumatra. Beyond minimising the risk of traffic accidents due to limited visibility, optimising street lighting is also expected to reduce potential security concerns, including criminal activity on the roads.
All Transportation Departments in districts and cities with authority and budgetary support for street light management have been requested to take concrete steps during the Eid holiday period. With increased public mobility in the coming days, the Lampung Provincial Government is ensuring that cross-sectoral coordination continues to be strengthened, so that all holiday migration routes, particularly the Bakauheni Jalinsum, can be traversed in safe, well-lit, and comfortable conditions.
