Bandarlampung (ANTARA) - The Provincial Government of Lampung is striving to develop the “modified cassava flour (mocaf)” industry in Pringsewu Regency as a form of downstreaming the local cassava commodity.

“The development of mocaf is one form of downstreaming the cassava commodity, which has great potential in Lampung Province,” said Lampung Governor Rahmat Mirzani Djausal based on his statement in Bandarlampung on Saturday.

He also encouraged the development of a mocaf production centre in Pringsewu Regency, considering that the area is a producer of cassava.

“This effort is important to strengthen food self-sufficiency, while also improving the regional economy,” he said.

He explained that the industrialisation of mocaf can function as an engine for inclusive regional economic growth.

“Processing cassava into mocaf not only increases the added value of local commodities but also drives economic growth and strengthens regional food security,” he stated.

According to him, Pringsewu Regency has the potential to become a model for cassava downstreaming development in Lampung Province.

“The development of mocaf in Pringsewu is an important step in food diversification, while also strengthening the community economy based on local commodities,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pringsewu Regent Riyanto Pamungkas said that Pringsewu already has small and medium industries (IKM) engaged in mocaf production.

“The product is the result of cassava downstreaming that can serve as a healthy flour alternative to wheat flour for various food preparations,” said Riyanto Pamungkas.

He continued that cassava downstreaming aims to increase the added value of cassava, while also encouraging community involvement in every stage of production.
