Lamongan Regency, East Java, will soon implement several strategic measures to anticipate food crop harvest failures ahead of the dry season. All sub-districts have also been instructed to identify areas requiring priority handling to address drought.

“Yes, we are preparing several strategic steps to anticipate food crop failures,” said Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi on Thursday afternoon (9/4).

According to him, these anticipatory efforts are being carried out to face the potential for a prolonged dry season expected to last until August. Relevant agencies have been asked to immediately conduct data collection and mapping of reservoirs, normalisation of water channels, and strengthening of irrigation networks.

He also stated that all sub-districts have been instructed to identify areas needing priority handling to anticipate the impact of damage on food crops.

Pak Yes, the regent’s familiar nickname, emphasised that the dry conditions must not hinder the expansion of planting areas (LTT). Fulfilling food production targets remains a shared commitment to safeguard regional food security.

In accelerating the LTT for 2026, the Lamongan Regency Government is actively encouraging farmers and farmer groups in Lamongan to promptly plant rice in the second planting season (MT2) after harvesting.

He revealed that in 2025, Lamongan exceeded the central government’s LTT target of 192,373 hectares, achieving 193,786 hectares, with a base irrigated rice field area of 95,000 hectares.

Moreover, Lamongan has further strengthened its position as the national food barn by achieving rice production of 1,335,099 tonnes, the highest in East Java.

“How is that possible? Because planting is not done just once, but multiple times. What also sets it apart is the character of the Lamongan people who are diligent, eagerly harvesting; even before the harvest is finished, they are ready to plant again, without waiting until tomorrow, without worrying about the weather forecast from BMKG, whether it rains or not—simply striving and believing,” he concluded.
