JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli emphasised that domestic workers (PRT) must receive fair wages. Therefore, he supports the Domestic Workers Protection Bill (RUU PPRT), which serves as the legal umbrella for protecting PRT. “Domestic workers must receive guarantees of fair wages, working hours and rest times, rights to holidays and leave, protection from discrimination, sexual violence, as well as occupational safety and health guarantees,” he stated during a meeting discussing the RUU PPRT with the DPR’s Legislation Body (Baleg) on Monday (20/4/2026). The presence of the RUU PPRT, which is scheduled to be enacted into law on Tuesday (21/4/2026), will serve as the legal foundation for domestic workers to obtain their rights. The RUU PPRT is important to ensure that PRT receive rights equal to other workers. “Domestic workers have rights that must be protected by the state from before working, during work, to after working, including in dispute resolution as well as guidance and supervision,” said Yassierli. Deputy Chairman of the DPR’s Baleg, Martin Manurung, stated that the RUU PPRT has been in the National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas) for 22 years. “And I think both the DPR and the government must provide attention and commitment so that this RUU PPRT can be completed soon,” said Martin in opening the hearing with opinions (RDP) related to the RUU PPRT on Wednesday (11/3/2026). The discussion of the RUU PPRT, according to Martin, is very important because domestic workers (PRT) are not yet accommodated in Law Number 13 of 2003 on Manpower. “This means the level of regulation is still at the ministerial regulation. Therefore, we need input before the working committee discusses and drafts this RUU PPRT, especially regarding the pattern of resolving conflicts or labour disputes in the domestic workers sector,” said Martin. At least, there are 11 important points that will be regulated in the RUU PPRT. Some of them include regulating rights for domestic workers.
