The government has decided on a work-from-home (WFH) scheme for private sector employees. However, the WFH rules for the private sector do not have to be on Fridays, unlike for civil servants (ASN). “For private workers, it is only a recommendation. When there are many day options, then if we want to align with ASN colleagues, the choice can be Friday,” said Labour Minister Yassierli during a press conference on Wednesday (1/4/2026). He mentioned that each company has its own characteristics and needs. Therefore, the technical rules for WFH in the private sector are left to each respective company. “But each company has its own unique characteristics, so the technicalities are returned to each company,” he stated. Previously, in a press conference on Tuesday (31/3), the government had detailed the one-day-per-week WFH rule for civil servants. WFH for ASN was decided to apply every Friday. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that WFH for private sector employees will adjust to the characteristics and needs of each business sector. “The implementation of work from home for the private sector will be further regulated in the Circular of the Minister of Manpower,” said Airlangga.
