Labour Minister Requests WFH Not to Reduce National Productivity
Labour Minister Yassierli stated that the work-from-home (WFH) system must not reduce work productivity. The appeal was directed to the government to reduce energy consumption and utilise it wisely.
“Of course, it must not reduce national productivity and must not contradict our spirit of economic growth,” he said during a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
Yassierli said the WFH appeal of one day per week applies to State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Regional Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and the private sector. The implementation time is regulated by the company and is urged to involve workers or labour unions in the planning.
However, for Civil Servants (ASN), the government has first implemented WFH every Friday. This step is similarly aimed at reducing excessive energy consumption due to geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, which have impacted the rise in crude oil prices in the global market. Nevertheless, the government has not raised fuel prices this month.
Yassierli explained that this is currently a momentum for adapting to new ways of working alongside wise energy use. “We are confident that this momentum will be used by friends from the private sector to design various programmes in collaboration with labour unions on how to be more efficient in the workplace,” he said.
During WFH, he stated that wages or salaries and other workers’ rights must still be paid according to regulations, and the implementation of WFH does not reduce annual leave. Workers continue to carry out tasks and obligations, and companies ensure performance and service productivity.
