Labour Minister Pays Respects to Late Vice President Try Sutrisno, Remembers Him as an Extraordinary Figure
Labour Minister (Menaker) Yassierli paid her respects at the residence of the late sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, on the morning of 2 March 2026. She expressed her condolences regarding the passing of Try Sutrisno.
“Certainly all of us Indonesians must be deeply saddened by his death. In my opinion, he was an extraordinary figure who set an example for us. Certainly he has rendered very many services,” said Yassierli at the residence in the Menteng area of Central Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026.
Yassierli recalled Try Sutrisno during his time as Vice President whilst she was still at university. She noted his activities and accomplishments whilst serving as Vice President.
“I myself have many memories because he was vice president when I was just starting university. So indeed, at that time we saw very much how he carried out his duties,” she said.
Yassierli subsequently prayed that Try Sutrisno’s good deeds would be accepted by God. “We pray that all the good deeds he performed will receive goodness in the sight of God Almighty,” she said.
Try Sutrisno passed away on the morning of 2 March 2026 at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto hospital. Previously, Try Sutrisno had been treated at RSPAD since 16 February.
Try Sutrisno’s body was then taken to the residence at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6 RT 08 RW 05, Menteng, Central Jakarta. Subsequently, his body was given the funeral prayer at Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque, Central Jakarta, before finally being buried at Kalibata Military Cemetery (TMP Kalibata) in South Jakarta.
Try Sutrisno served as the sixth Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia from 1993 to 1998 alongside Soeharto, who was President of the Republic of Indonesia at that time. He was born in Surabaya in 1935.
Try was one of the vice presidents who came from the military. He was also a graduate of the Army Engineering Academy in 1959.
During his military career, Try served as Chief of Staff of the Army from 1986 to 1988 and as Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia from 1988 to 1993.
He married Tuti Sutiawati in 1961 and was blessed with seven children, consisting of four sons and three daughters.
