Labour Minister Claims Holiday Allowance for Ride-hailing Drivers to Improve This Year
The Labour Minister (Menaker) Yassierli has stated that ride-hailing transportation application companies have committed to providing better holiday allowances (BHR) to ride-hailing drivers (ojol) compared to last year. However, payments will be determined based on the companies’ financial conditions and business flexibility.
This commitment was revealed by Yassierli following a meeting with application company representatives some days earlier. “They have committed to providing more than last year, and we appreciate that. Wait and see, each application company will have its own category,” he said at the Labour Ministry office on Friday, 27 February 2026.
During the meeting, the Labour Minister sought to ensure that the Eid holiday allowances (THR) for ride-hailing drivers this Ramadan period would be better and reach more recipients. “Better in the sense that the value is larger, but we also need to consider the company’s finances,” he said.
Additionally, Yassierli stated that the criteria for BHR recipients must align with driver activity levels. Recipients should be differentiated based on full-time and part-time workers, as this business model differs from conventional employment. According to the Labour Ministry’s latest records, the number of active drivers is approximately 1.2 to 1.5 million people.
The Labour Minister stated that the ministerial decision serving as the basis for BHR provision will be issued after he meets with President Prabowo Subianto. Yassierli will discuss holiday allowances and bonuses with the head of state in the coming week.
During last year’s Eid period, Yassierli issued Labour Minister Circular Letter No. M/3/HK.04.OANU2A25 on Wednesday, 12 March 2025. This circular served as the reference that application companies must follow for providing holiday allowances to ride-hailing drivers.
Some of its provisions include: BHR is provided to all ride-hailing drivers and couriers officially registered with application companies. Furthermore, BHR must be provided no later than seven days before Eid al-Fitr. The bonus is provided in cash equivalent to 20 per cent of the average monthly net income over the last 12 months.
For drivers and couriers not falling within the productive category, BHR is still provided according to the application company’s capacity. This BHR provision cannot reduce other forms of welfare support already provided by the application company in accordance with applicable legislation.
