Thousands of workers affiliated with the Indonesian Confederation of Trade Unions (KSPI) and the Labour Party plan to stage a demonstration at the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker). The action aims to demand the revision of Ministerial Regulation on Employment (Permenaker) No. 7 of 2026 regarding outsourced workers. KSPI President and Labour Party President, Said Iqbal, stated that the protest is scheduled for Thursday (7/5/2026) and will be centred at the Ministry of Manpower office in Jakarta. He explained that the action serves as pressure on the government to promptly revise the outsourcing rules, which are deemed insufficient in providing protection for workers. “Permenaker No. 7 of 2026 on outsourced workers must be revised,” he said. In addition to the revision issue, Iqbal mentioned the possibility of other concerns being raised during the protest. Similar actions will also take place simultaneously in several cities in Indonesia, such as Semarang, Surabaya, Bandung, Serang, Medan, Batam, and other regions. “Simultaneously in several cities at governors’ offices,” said Iqbal. Previously, KSPI had also urged the government to revise Permenaker No. 7 of 2026, considering it contrary to the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling. This was conveyed by Said Iqbal during a press conference via Zoom on Monday (4/5/2026). Furthermore, KSPI views the regulation as not addressing field issues related to outsourcing practices that harm workers. One criticised point is the lack of firm regulations regarding types of work prohibited from using outsourced labour.
