Kudus cigarette workers strike
KUDUS, Central Java: About 2,500 workers from the Djamboe Bol
and Pompa cigarette plants went on strike yesterday, demanding
that the company make good on its promise to increase wages and
improve its workers' welfare.
The strike began in the morning with the workers, mostly
elderly women, taking their grievances to the local office of the
All-Indonesian Workers Union (SPSI).
During a meeting with the company's management at the SPSI
office, the workers demanded an overall improvement in their
salary and bonuses, as promised under the collective labor
agreement between the company and the workers. (har/mds)
