Jakarta - The Indonesian Confederation of All-Indonesian Workers’ Unions (KSPSI), led by Yorrys Raweyai, has conveyed ten demands to the government on the occasion of International Labour Day (May Day) 2026. One of the main points raised is the push for fiscal reforms deemed more favourable to workers. KSPSI Deputy General Chairman Arnod Sihite stated that the first demand is the resolution of severance pay cases, particularly for workers affected by termination of employment (PHK), including at PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tbk (Sritex). “We urge the resolution of workers’ severance pay, including the PHK case at PT Sritex. This concerns the basic rights of workers that must not be ignored,” Arnod said in a statement received by Kompas.com on Friday (1/5/2026). The second demand sees KSPSI pressing the government to promptly enact a new labour law. According to Arnod, the current regulations have not fully addressed the challenges of the modern world of work. The third demand involves KSPSI advocating for the issuance of regulations on Recipients of Contribution Assistance (PBI) for Employment Social Security as mandated by the national social security system. “Social security protection must be expanded, especially for vulnerable workers. This is a legislative mandate that has not been fully implemented,” Arnod said. The fifth demand rejects the planned increase in BPJS Health contributions. According to Arnod, such a policy could add to the burden on workers amid an unstable economic situation. “We request that the BPJS contribution increase be postponed. The public’s economic condition has not fully recovered,” he emphasised. The seventh demand also sees KSPSI urging the government to ratify international conventions to strengthen worker protection, including conventions related to the fisheries sector and the prevention of workplace violence.
