Jakarta - The Chief of Naval Staff (KSAL), Admiral Muhammad Ali, has described the KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 as the largest warship in Southeast Asia, now bolstering the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) fleet.

This vessel is the product of collaboration between Indonesia and Italy. It is the second such ship owned by the TNI AL after the KRI Brawijaya.

In terms of capabilities, he stated, the ship is relatively comparable to those possessed by neighbouring countries such as Australia, Singapore, and Vietnam.

According to official data, the KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 has a length of 143 metres and a beam of 16.5 metres.

The ship is equipped with a main OTO Melara 127 mm gun, a 76 mm Strales gun for medium-range air defence, 16 vertical missile launchers, Teseo Mk-2E missiles for surface targets, anti-submarine torpedoes, and close-in automatic weapons.

The KRI Prabu Siliwangi is designed for various missions, from patrols, surface, subsurface, and air warfare, escorting vital assets, maritime law enforcement, to humanitarian missions such as disaster relief.

During its voyage from Italy to Indonesia, the ship made stops in Morocco and Nigeria. During these stops, the crew conducted port visits and official meetings with local authorities as part of military diplomacy.

During the voyage, the ship also underwent combat capability tests, including firing the 127 mm gun.

The presence of the KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is regarded as an effort by the TNI to modernise its main weapon systems, while strengthening the defence and security of Indonesia’s maritime territory.
