KRL Bekasi Collides with Argo Bromo: Expert Questions Train Controller's Oversight – How Could They Miss the Stationary Taxiing Train?
Public policy expert Agus Pambagio has analysed the train accident in East Bekasi, West Java. Agus has identified at least three factors suspected of triggering the chain of accidents. First, Agus suggests that the accident may have occurred due to an error by the Train Journey Regulator (PPKA). “There are several possible issues. One concerns the PPKA – how could they not see on the computer that there was a train stationary and taxiing, stopped behind it, yet the Argo Bromo Anggrek was proceeding normally at over 100 km/h in East Bekasi. That could lead to a collision like that. So there’s a problem with the PPKA. The person responsible for PPKA must be examined,” Agus told Republika on Tuesday (28/4/2026). Second, Agus questions the work structure at PT KAI. Agus raises concerns about the lack of separation between the Director of Infrastructure and Facilities at PT KAI, as their workloads differ. “The second possibility, which I have already mentioned, is that the director of infrastructure and facilities in the railways must be separated. They cannot be combined. We have said this, but it still hasn’t been done,” Agus stated. Third, Agus recognises a problem related to the double-double track (DDT) and double track. This condition could be a contributing factor to the accident. “The third issue is that there are still problems with the double-double track and double track. There are still imperfections in the signals and so on. That’s one of the causes,” Agus said.
