TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com — Residents and vehicle users around Batuceper Station in Tangerang City admit to being reluctant to park their vehicles in the official location because it requires crossing a busy main road with dense traffic, which they consider dangerous. This situation has led some drivers to choose parking on the sidewalks, even though it violates regulations, to avoid risks when crossing. One of them is Bambang (47), a motorcyclist who uses the electric rail train (KRL) at Batuceper Station. He stated that access to the official parking area requires drivers to cross a road with dense traffic from large vehicles. According to him, the absence of crossing facilities such as zebra crossings or traffic lights makes residents feel unsafe when passing through. This condition often triggers traffic accidents, especially for pedestrians heading to the station or parking area. The passing vehicles are large in size, such as trucks and buses travelling at high speeds. This situation is considered dangerous for road crossers. “If you want to cross, there should be a bell to stop the vehicles that want to cross, but there’s nothing like that. No zebra crossing either. It’s pitiful for those crossing,” he said. Therefore, he asks the government to pay attention to the facilities needed by residents in that location. “No need for an overpass, at least a zebra crossing and one transport department officer to help with crossing. So people would be willing to park in the proper place,” Bambang explained. In addition to the distance factor, parking fees in certain areas also become a consideration for drivers. “Inside there is parking too, airport parking, it’s charged per hour so many say it’s too expensive. Because not everyone has a large income, plus paying for the train,” he said. Safrie admitted to frequently reminding drivers not to park haphazardly. However, such appeals are not always heeded. “I’ve often directed them to the official parking, but some still insist on parking here. Sometimes they say it would add parking fees, but that’s not the issue,” he explained.
