Jakarta — Several government officials directly participated in cleaning rubbish at Kramat Jati Market in East Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

The activity was attended by Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, Trade Minister Budi Santoso, and Jakarta East Regional Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri.

According to observations by Kompas.com, the clean-up operation also involved police personnel, the military (TNI), and the East Jakarta City Government apparatus led by East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin.

Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq was seen interacting several times with market traders to enquire about the market’s waste management system.

“Is the rubbish always collected and the market kept clean every day, or only when the Trade Minister and Environment Minister are here?” Hanif asked the traders.

“It’s done every day, sir; it’s already sorted,” the traders responded.

During the operation, Hanif and Trade Minister Budi Santoso were observed collecting rubbish stuck under traders’ tables and placing it into rubbish bags. In addition to manual cleaning, fire department personnel were deployed to spray the grounds of Kramat Jati Market to ensure the market environment remained clean.

“As has been mentioned, the rubbish from this area amounts to nearly 1,000 tonnes per day. This is a very large volume, including from these public markets,” said Hanif.
