Registration documents must be signed by the party’s central leadership. Generally, the leadership referred to is the general chairperson and general secretary, or equivalent titles.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission of the Republic of Indonesia (KPU RI) has stated that documents for registering political parties as prospective participants in general elections (Pemilu) must be signed by the party’s central leadership, namely the general chairperson and secretary general.

“Registration documents must be signed by the party’s central leadership. Generally, the leadership meant is the general chairperson and general secretary, or other titles,” said KPU RI Commissioner Idham Holik at the KPU RI office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

This was conveyed by Idham after receiving an audience from the Chairman of the DPP of Petiga Muda Peduli, Indra Hakim Hasibuan, along with several cadres from Petiga Muda Peduli.

He also stated that the rules outlined in KPU Regulation Number 4 of 2022 remain in effect and have not undergone changes in the political party registration mechanism.

In addition to the issue of signatures from leadership, the audience also discussed fulfilling the 30 percent female representation requirement in the party’s management structure at the central level.

Regarding this, Idham explained that this requirement is a mandate from the Political Parties Law, specifically Article 2 paragraph 2 and Article 7, as a condition for obtaining legal entity status from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

“For the purposes of registration with the KPU, we follow Article 173 paragraph 2 letter e of the Elections Law. The norm regarding female representation refers to that article,” said Idham.

Indra revealed dynamics within PPP related to the Decree (SK) for appointing Acting Provincial Board Chairmen at the regional level, which was only signed by the general chairperson and deputy secretary general, not by the secretary general.

Indra also welcomed the explanation provided by the election organiser.

“Alhamdulillah, earlier it was explained based on the Law that it is clearly stated it must be the General Chairperson and Secretary General. This explanation is very important to address the uncertainties that have existed so far,” said Indra.

He added that this audience step was taken to mitigate the risk of failure in the party verification stage.

“We are concerned that if administrative order is not followed, PPP will face difficulties in the next election verification process. Our visit is to ensure everything complies with applicable laws and regulations,” he stated.

Following the meeting, Indra said he would immediately conduct internal communication and socialise the results of this audience to PPP executives and affiliated organisations (Banom) in various regions.

“The aim is to find common ground on the differing principles that have occurred recently, so that all cadres have the same perception in accordance with KPU regulations,” said Indra.
