The Indonesian Competition Commission (KPPU) has summoned two major platforms in Indonesia, TikTok and Tokopedia, in connection with an investigation into alleged monopolistic practices within the digital e-commerce ecosystem. The summons followed a complaint from the Association of E-commerce Logistics Entrepreneurs (APLE) regarding suspected competition law violations after the integration of TikTok Shop and Tokopedia services. Deswin Nur, head of KPPU’s Bureau of Public Relations and Cooperation, stated that investigators are currently gathering necessary evidence before proceeding to trial. ‘KPPU investigators are gathering the required evidence. In this process, information from the complainant is the primary source, along with information from other parties,’ he said in a written statement on 28 May 2026. Following the investigation, the process will proceed to case preparation before trial. Regarding TikTok’s compliance with the summons as the accused party, Deswin said rescheduling is still ongoing after previous summonses failed to yield results. ‘Rescheduling is still being conducted,’ he added. The investigation began with APLE’s report alleging digital ecosystem monopolisation involving TikTok Pte. Ltd., TikTok Nusantara (SG) Pte. Ltd., and the integrated TikTok Shop service with Tokopedia. APLE estimates that reduced competition in the digital ecosystem could result in losses of 10-15% of Indonesia’s digital economy, valued at $100 billion (approximately Rp1.75 trillion). This figure reflects market inefficiencies caused by practices deemed to stifle competition.
