Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection is striving to ensure the fulfilment of education rights for children who are victims of sexual violence and physical abuse by the head of an orphanage in Buleleng, Bali.

“The victims will be requested for dispensations from the schools so they can carry out independent learning until the investigation process is complete,” said Acting Deputy for Child Special Protection of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Indra Gunawan, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, the victims are experiencing anxiety, worry, and confusion regarding their livelihood and education continuity.

The victims fear they cannot continue their education and support their lives because they have previously depended on the orphanage.

“The victims, since the beginning of staying at the orphanage, have had very high hopes of receiving better education to improve their standard of living,” said Indra Gunawan.

So far, the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for Women’s and Child Protection (UPTD PPA) of Buleleng Regency has endeavoured to fulfil the victims’ rights by placing them in safe houses, meeting their food needs, and providing psychological and legal support.

The Buleleng Regency Social Service for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (P3A) plans to relocate the children from the orphanage to several other orphanages in Jagaraga Village, Buleleng Regency.

Previously, the case of abuse and alleged sexual violence occurred at an orphanage in Buleleng Regency, Bali.

The case came to light after a victim with initials PAM (16) reported the orphanage head with initials JMW to the Buleleng Police Resort.

PAM was one of the victims of sexual violence and abuse at the orphanage.

The victims are orphanage children, allegedly numbering eight, consisting of six children and two adult women.
