KPK Urges Civil Servants to Reject Gratification Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Warns of Criminal Penalties
JAKARTA – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has reminded all state officials and civil servants to reject and avoid all forms of gratification, particularly those connected to their positions and corresponding authorities.
The KPK emphasised that requests for funds, gifts, or holiday allowances not only violate ethical standards but also constitute potential corruption offences.
“Holiday gift-giving traditions must not be exploited as gratification, especially with the intention of influencing the independence of state apparatus in performing their duties and exercising their authority,” stated KPK spokesman Budi Prasetyo in a written statement.
The circular was issued as a measure to strengthen the integrity of state apparatus ahead of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The KPK noted that to date there have been 32 gratification reports linked to holiday season celebrations, with a total value reaching Rp 13.6 million. Of this total, approximately 14 reports or 43.75 per cent remain under review and validation by the KPK.
“Meanwhile, approximately 12 other reports, or 37.5 per cent, have been redirected as a form of social assistance,” said Budi.
He also urged civil servants to serve as role models for the public. “Requests for funds or gifts, such as holiday allowances or other denominations, whether by individuals or institutions from the public, companies, or fellow state officials, can result in corruption offences,” he concluded.
Information regarding gratification reports and corruption prevention can be accessed through the official portal. Reports on the receipt or rejection of gratification can be submitted through the online gratification reporting application at the designated platform or via email.
