KPK Uncovers Indications of Bribery Against Election Organisers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), through a study conducted by its Monitoring Directorate, has uncovered indications of bribery against general election (pemilu) organisers.
“KPK has found indications of bribery towards pemilu organisers aimed at manipulating electoral results,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Saturday.
In addition, Budi stated that the KPK has identified loopholes in the recruitment and selection processes for pemilu organisers at national and regional levels.
According to him, these loopholes have the potential to produce organisers lacking integrity.
Previously, the KPK’s Monitoring Directorate conducted a study in 2025 to identify corruption potentials among pemilu organisers.
After the study, the KPK proposed five points of improvement for the conduct of pemilu, which are expected to minimise corruption potentials.
First, the KPK encourages strengthening the integrity of pemilu organisers through improvements in selection mechanisms, process transparency, and public involvement in background checks. This effort can also be supported by optimising the Political Party Information System (SIPOL).
Second, restructuring the party political nomination process, including minimum membership requirements and the elimination of provisions that open opportunities for elite intervention in candidates.
Third, reforming campaign financing, including regulations on campaign methods and types, as well as restrictions on the use of cash.
Fourth, the gradual implementation of electronic voting and vote tabulation at national and regional elections.
Fifth, strengthening election law enforcement by clarifying norms, expanding legal subjects to include every person as giver and receiver, and aligning regulations for legislative and regional head elections.
