KPK to Investigate Alleged Gratification of Private Jet Use for Religious Affairs Minister from OSO
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will investigate allegations of gratification involving the provision of private jet travel for Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar by Hanura Party chairman Oesman Sapta Odang (OSO).
“We will first look at open sources, starting with media reports,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto at the KPK’s Juang Building in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Setyo explained that this step was being taken by the KPK to determine whether the facilities received by the Religious Affairs Minister constituted gratification or not.
“We will examine and first ascertain whether there are aspects that relate to the abuse of power or the authority of his office,” he said.
Furthermore, he stated that this step was necessary because the KPK could not immediately pass judgement that the minister’s acceptance of the facility from OSO was inherently wrong.
“We cannot simply rush to conclude that it was wrong; rather, we go through a process. The question of that process is whether it will then be followed up or not,” he said.
Previously, on 16 February 2026, social media platform X was abuzz with reports about the Religious Affairs Minister travelling by private jet. The minister used a private Embraer Legacy 600 jet during a recent working visit to Bone.
On the same date, the Head of the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ Public Relations and Communication Bureau, Thobib Al Asyhar, explained that the minister had used a private jet when visiting Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, on 15 February 2026.
Thobib further explained that the private jet belonged to national figure Oesman Sapta Odang, who had lent it to the minister on grounds of time efficiency.
“Mr OSO specifically invited and expressed his hope that the Sarkiah Hall would be inaugurated by the Religious Affairs Minister. Mr OSO also took the initiative to prepare the private jet for the minister so that he could attend amid his packed schedule,” said Thobib in an official statement on the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ website on Monday.
