KPK to Inventory Needs Following President's Directive on Law Enforcement Strengthening
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has decided to inventory its institutional needs to act upon a statement made by President Prabowo Subianto during the National Consolidation event for the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Programme in Bogor Regency, West Java, on 3 June 2026. “How will the KPK itself respond to what has been commanded by the commander-in-chief of the law, by the President? Of course, we will inventory what the needs might be, whether in terms of human resources, budget, activity financing, and so on, or perhaps other operational support. This will naturally require discussion,” said KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building in Jakarta on Thursday. According to Setyo, the matter will be discussed with the involvement of all deputy divisions within the KPK. He added that the KPK views President Prabowo’s statement as a commitment to and support for eradicating criminal acts of corruption in Indonesia. “His statement is then proven by several things. Furthermore, there has been no intervention in law enforcement officials, a seriousness, and many things that have been done,” he said. Previously, on 3 June 2026, Prabowo expressed support for strengthening oversight institutions and law enforcement officials to handle alleged irregularities in the use of the state budget. “Head of BPKP, what do you need? If you need additional personnel, however many you need, I will fulfil it. KPK Chairman, whatever you need, report it, I will fulfil it. Attorney General, whatever you need, I will fulfil it,” he stated. According to Prabowo, strengthening oversight institutions and law enforcement officials is necessary to ensure there is no misuse of the people’s money and to maintain the authority of the government and the state. “I do not want the people’s money to be stolen, and there are no exceptions,” he stressed. On 4 June 2026, Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi viewed that adding budgets for oversight bodies and law enforcement officials is not a problem for the government if it is required to strengthen the prevention of corruption in the execution of government programmes.
