KPK Supervisory Board Examines Complainant Over Alleged Ethical Violations by Leadership in Yaqut's House Arrest Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Supervisory Board (Dewas) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has begun examining the complainant regarding allegations of ethical violations by KPK leadership and its staff related to the change in detention status of former Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, to house arrest on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
The KPK Supervisory Board examined one of the complainants, namely Marselinus Edwin Hardhian, the General Chairman of the Aliansi Rakyat untuk Keadilan dan Kesejahteraan (Arukki).
Marselinus stated that during the examination, the KPK Supervisory Board requested clarification on the basis of the complaint he submitted via email on Monday (23/3/2026).
“Today I came as the complainant or reporter to be asked for information and clarification on what bases led us to report this matter. We then explained that this report was made based on several grounds,” said Marselinus at the KPK ACLC Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
He said that Yaqut’s house arrest status was actually known to the public from other parties, not directly from the KPK.
“It was not announced openly because the public learned about it from the wife of one of the detainees, and secondly, the KPK spokesperson himself stated that the reason for granting the change in detention was a request from the family,” he said.
He stated that the KPK should have announced the results of the investigation strategy.
“There is also now an investigation strategy, or possibly the second application of this investigation strategy was unsuccessful, because whatever it is, up to now, the results of that investigation strategy have not been announced to the public,” he said.
The change was made at the family’s request and was only announced by the KPK on 21 March 2026, coinciding with Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
However, just a few days later, the KPK again changed Yaqut’s detention status back to detention in the penitentiary as of 23 March 2026.
He also expressed gratitude for being able to take advantage of the moment to pay respects to his mother during Eid al-Fitr.
“Our request. Alhamdulillah, I was able to pay respects to my mother,” said Yaqut.
In this case, Yaqut is charged as a suspect in the alleged corruption case of the 2023-2024 Hajj quota, with state losses amounting to Rp 622 billion.
