KPK Summons Ustaz Khalid Basalamah Again in Hajj Quota Corruption Case
The KPK has summoned several witnesses in connection with the 2023-2024 hajj quota corruption case. One of those rescheduled for examination is Ustaz Khalid Basalamah (KB). “In the continuation of the hajj quota investigation, it is true that today the investigators have scheduled Mr KB, one of the parties from PIHK,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters on Thursday (23/4/2026). Khalid is being called as part of the examinations of Penyelenggara Ibadah Haji Khusus (PIHK) or travel agencies. Khalid has already been questioned by the KPK several times, most recently on 9 September 2025. “This is part of the examinations of the travel agencies or PIHK that are indeed needed by the investigators to delve deeper into how the buying and selling or filling of hajj worship quotas was carried out by those PIHK,” he stated. Budi is confident that Khalid will be cooperative and attend the summons. Khalid’s testimony is needed to clarify the hajj quota corruption case. “We are confident that the witness will be cooperative in attending the investigators’ summons and later provide the necessary testimony,” he added. The KPK itself previously seized money from Khalid. The money seized from Ustaz Khalid is said to be ‘expediting’ funds allegedly requested by rogue elements in the Ministry of Religious Affairs. That money is suspected to have been handed over by Khalid after receiving an offer to switch from departing for hajj via the furoda route to hajj using additional special quotas in 2024, with promises of VIP maktab facilities. According to the KPK, the money that had been deposited by Khalid along with his pilgrims was returned by rogue Ministry of Religious Affairs officials due to fears of a special parliamentary committee (Pansus) on hajj in 2024. The KPK has named four suspects in this case. They are: 1. Former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) 2. Former Special Staff to Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Azis alias Gus Alex (IAA) 3. Operations Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour) Ismail Adham (ISM) 4. Chairman of Asosiasi Kesthuri Asrul Azis Taba (ASR). The KPK suspects that Ismail and Asrul gave money to Yaqut as the former Minister of Religious Affairs. The giving of money was done through an intermediary, namely Yaqut’s former special staff, Gus Alex. Ismail is suspected of giving USD 30,000 to Gus Alex. Ismail also, according to Asep, handed over USD 5,000 to the former Director General of PHU at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in 2024, Hilman Latief (HL). The KPK states that the state losses in this case amount to Rp 622 billion. The figure for state losses is the result of calculations by the Financial Audit Board (BPK).
