KPK Summons Two Suspects in Hajj Quota Corruption Case Today
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned two new suspects in the alleged corruption case involving the 2023-2024 additional Hajj quota for questioning today, Monday (8/6).
The two suspects are Ismail Adham, the Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), and Asrul Azis Taba, the General Chairperson of the Kesthuri Association and Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama.
“In the follow-up investigation of the alleged corruption regarding the Hajj quota for Indonesia’s Hajj pilgrimage for 2023-2024, investigators have scheduled examinations for Mr ISM, as Operational Director of PT Makassar Toraja (Maktour), and Mr ASR, as Commissioner of PT Raudah Eksati Utama and General Chairperson of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Union (Kesthuri),” stated KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo in a written statement on Monday.
The examinations are being conducted at the KPK’s Merah Putih Building.
Previously, on Monday (1/6), the KPK Deputy for Enforcement and Execution, Asep Guntur Rahayu, stated that investigators would detain two suspects in the Hajj quota corruption case in the near future. He noted that while two individuals from the private sector have been named suspects, they have not yet been detained, though detention is expected within the coming week.
The KPK announced the two suspects during a press conference on Monday, 30 March 2026. While detention has not yet occurred, the KPK has issued a six-month travel ban against both suspects.
Asep explained that investigators are continuing to gather and strengthen evidence to ensure a robust case for trial. He noted that the timing of detention is critical because the KPK is subject to a 90-to-120-day limit to complete case files once a suspect is detained; exceeding this limit would require the release of the suspects from custody.
In addition to Ismail Adham and Asrul Azis Taba, the KPK is also prosecuting the former Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, and his Special Staff, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (also known as Gus Alex), in connection with this case. Both Yaqut and Ishfah have already been detained. The KPK is pursuing the case based on charges of state losses, which are estimated to be approximately Rp622 billion.
In the near future, the KPK will submit the case files of the two individuals to the Public Prosecutor to prepare the indictment. Subsequently, the Public Prosecutor will submit the indictment and evidence to the Corruption Court (Tipikor) for trial and adjudication.
