KPK Summons Former Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi in DJKA Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned former Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi to testify as a witness in the investigation of alleged bribery in the construction and maintenance of railway lines within the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) at the Ministry of Transport.
“It is correct that witness BKS is scheduled this morning for examination by investigators in the DJKA case,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Monday.
Budi stated that Budi Karya Sumadi’s testimony is necessary to clarify the DJKA case at the Ministry of Transport.
“BKS as Transport Minister at the time of the alleged offence, his statement is certainly required by investigators to clarify the case with locations at several points to bring it to light,” he said.
Previously, the case emerged following a raid conducted by the KPK on 11 April 2023 at the Class I Railway Engineering Centre for the Central Java Region of the DJKA Ministry of Transport. The Class I Engineering Centre for the Central Java Region has since been renamed the Class I Semarang Engineering Centre.
The KPK subsequently identified 10 suspects who were immediately detained in relation to the alleged corruption case involving railway construction and maintenance projects in Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi.
As of 20 January 2026, the KPK has identified and detained a total of 21 suspects. The KPK has also identified two corporations as suspects in the case.
The alleged corruption offences involved projects including the construction of dual railway lines for the Solo Balapan-Kadipiro-Kalioso project; the construction of railway lines in Makassar, South Sulawesi; four railway line construction projects and two supervision projects in Lampung and Cianjur, West Java; and a level crossing improvement project spanning Java and Sumatra.
In the development and maintenance of these projects, allegations have emerged that project winners were determined through manipulation by certain parties, from the administrative process through to the tender selection process.
Budi Karya Sumadi had previously been examined by the KPK in this case. He was last questioned as a witness in the alleged DJKA corruption case on 26 July 2023.
On 18 February 2026, the KPK again summoned Budi Karya Sumadi. However, he was unable to comply with the summons due to a prior scheduling conflict.
