Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas (YCQ) in his capacity as a suspect in the hajj quota corruption case.

“Today, Thursday, investigators have scheduled an examination of YCQ in the alleged corruption case related to the hajj quota for the implementation of Indonesia’s 2023-2024 hajj pilgrimage. The examination of YCQ will be conducted in his status as a suspect,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Thursday.

Budi further stated that the examination of Yaqut was scheduled to take place at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta.

“We believe the person in question will cooperate and will respond to this summons,” he said.

Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK announced it had begun investigating alleged corruption in the determination of the hajj quota and administration of the 2023-2024 hajj pilgrimage at the Religious Affairs Ministry.

On 11 August 2025, the KPK announced that its initial calculation of state losses in the case amounted to more than Rp1 trillion and placed restrictions on three individuals’ travel abroad for up to six months. The three were Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA), also known as Gus Alex, who served as Yaqut’s staff member, and Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the Maktour hajj organising agency.

On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced that two of the three individuals placed under travel restrictions had become suspects in the alleged hajj quota corruption case: Yaqut and Gus Alex.

However, Yaqut filed a pre-trial motion challenging his designation as a suspect with the South Jakarta District Court on 10 February 2026, registered under case number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL.

On 19 February 2026, the KPK announced the extension of travel restrictions abroad for only Yaqut and Gus Alex, whilst Fuad’s restrictions were not extended.

On 27 February 2026, the KPK announced it had received an audit from the Indonesian Supreme Audit Agency (BPK RI) regarding state financial losses caused by the hajj quota case. Subsequently, on 4 March 2026, the KPK announced that state financial losses from the case amounted to Rp622 billion.

On 11 March 2026, the South Jakarta District Court judges rejected Yaqut’s pre-trial motion.
