The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will summon former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas regarding the investigation into a corruption case involving hajj quotas today. Yaqut will be questioned in his capacity as a suspect.

“That is correct. Today, Thursday (12 March), investigators have scheduled an examination of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in connection with the alleged corruption offence related to hajj quotas for the conduct of Indonesia’s hajj pilgrimage in 2023-2024,” said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo when contacted on Thursday (12 March 2026).

“The examination of Yaqut Cholil Qoumas will be conducted in his status as a suspect,” he added.

Yaqut’s questioning will be held at the KPK’s Red and White building in South Jakarta. The KPK hopes that Yaqut will comply with the investigator’s summons.

“We believe that the person in question will cooperate and will comply with this summons,” said Budi.

Yaqut previously challenged his suspect status from the KPK through the courts. However, Yaqut’s pre-trial motion has been rejected by the judge.

The judge ruled that the KPK’s designation of Yaqut as a suspect was carried out in accordance with proper procedures and applicable regulations. The judge stated that the scope of pre-trial review only assesses formal aspects.

“The court rejects the petitioner’s pre-trial motion in its entirety,” said single judge Sulistyo Muhamad Dwi Putro when reading the pre-trial court decision number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL at the Jakarta South District Court on Wednesday (11 March).
