KPK summons former Kemenag deputy director Agus Syafi in hajj quota case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission has summoned M. Agus Syafi’ (MAS), the former Head of the Subdirectorate for Licensing, Accreditation, and Development of Special Hajj Organisers at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as a witness in the investigation into the alleged corruption case concerning hajj quotas.
“The examination took place at the Yogyakarta Municipal Police Headquarters for MAS, who served as the Deputy Director of Licensing, Accreditation, and Development of Special Hajj Organisers at the Ministry of Religious Affairs from 2023 to 2024,” stated KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to journalists in Jakarta on Friday.
In addition, Budi said the KPK has summoned seven other witnesses in the alleged hajj quota corruption case at two different locations and regions.
He mentioned that the KPK has summoned WP, the Operational Director of PT Impressa Media Wisata, for examination as a witness at the Yogyakarta Provincial Representative Office of the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency.
The KPK has also summoned civil servants from the Ministry of Religious Affairs with initials AS, as well as ISA, the Deputy Director of PT Kindai Tours and Travel; LHN, the President Director of PT Lintas Iskandaria; MD, the Operational Director of PT Mabrur Tour and Travel; KN, the Operational Director of PT Madani Bina Bersama; and NM, the President Director of PT Manajemen Mihrab Qalbi.
They are scheduled to be examined at the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta.
On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas and Ishfah Abidal Aziz, alias Gus Alex, who served as Yaqut’s special staff, as suspects in the case.
Meanwhile, Fuad Hasan Masyhur, the owner of the hajj organiser Maktour, was not designated as a suspect, despite previously being banned from leaving the country.
On 27 February 2026, the KPK received the audit results from the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) of Indonesia regarding state financial losses in the hajj quota case.
The KPK then announced on 4 March 2026 that the state financial losses amounted to Rp622 billion.
Subsequently, on 12 March 2026, the KPK detained Yaqut Cholil at the KPK’s Red and White Building State Detention House Branch. On 17 March 2026, the KPK also detained Ishfah Abidal Aziz at the KPK’s Anti-Corruption Education Centre Branch Detention House.
On the same date, Yaqut Cholil’s family filed a request for the former Minister of Religious Affairs to be placed under house arrest.
The KPK granted the request, allowing Yaqut to undergo house arrest starting from 19 March 2026. However, on 24 March 2026, the KPK re-detained Yaqut at the KPK Detention House after processing the change in detention status.
The KPK then designated two new suspects on 30 March 2026, namely Ismail Adham, the Operational Director of Maktour, and Asrul Aziz Taba, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Hajj and Umrah Travel Agency Union (Kesthuri).
